GIANT ANIMATED SPHERE
For Nuit Blanche Paris 2018, the EDF Group Foundation has engaged TETRO+A to produce a spectacular installation to complement the exhibit 1, 2, 3 DATA and attract the public to this exhibit’s close. TETRO rose to the challenge, responding with a work created by Nick Verstand and onformative.

ANIMA is an immersive installation that explores the emotional relationship between humans and artificial entities, through movement, texture, light and sound. The spherical imagery emanating from the object’s interior is realised using a single projector connected to a hemispheric lens. Images and sound are generated in real time, as a function of the entity’s contingent perception of our presence. ANIMA interprets our behaviour and its characteristics by responding to the spectator with a range of audiovisual expressions. Through this behavioural process, the installation creates the illusion of being a sensorial autonomous entity, thus challenging us to reflect on our own position with regard to artificially created intelligence. ANIMA creates the context that allows us to inquire into the extent to which an object may feel, acquire agency, or even possess a soul.
