— BACKGROUND & MISSION —

As the fourteenth bridge across the Saône in Lyon, the Pont Schuman is a strategic component of the city’s redevelopment, linking the Quai Gillet in the 4th arrondissement to the Quai du Commerce in the Vaise district. With a total length of 180 m -- a rare size for an urban bridge -- a width of 25 m and a total weight of 2600 metric tons, the Pont Schuman is, despite its impressive size, an elegant piece of architecture that integrates seamlessly into its environment.

The Greater Lyon regional government calls on Tetro to serve as artistic directors for the inauguration of the Schuman Bridge, in the hopes of establishing this major new infrastructure project on the Saône River as part of the central city.

— CREATION —

The inaugural event includes a sound and light show conceived by Yves Caizergues, lighting designer, and Christophe Goutes, musician. The two artists combines their talents to create a dramatic inaugural setting: beams of light were projected from the bridge towards the water before shooting up into the sky, setting off a series of waves that reshapes the bridge’s architecture. These graphic images changes to the rhythm of an accompanying soundtrack. This dynamic spotlight on the bridge reflects the boom in construction in Greater Lyon.
